Steve has been involved in career counselling since leaving his government job as a social worker in 1987 to deliver a six-week contract on interview skills. From 1987-1991 he delivered a fairly traditional form of career counselling based on personality and vocational assessments and in 1992 began developing what eventually became The Implicit Career Search®.
In 1994 Steve met Dr. Will Schutz, who along with Fritz Perls, and their work at Esalen, California, are generally given credit for bringing the human potential movement into the limelight during the 1960′s. Schutz authored several best-selling books including Joy and Profound Simplicity and developed the internationally acclaimed FIRO Theory, a guide to enhancing performance and improving organizations and relationships through the development of healthier self-concepts, self-determination, and openness.
Miller and Schutz collaborated to incorporate FIRO Theory into Miller’s career development work, resulting in The Implicit Career Search® (ICS®) program.
Steve now delivers, and trains others to deliver ICS® globally, both in workshops and one-to-one coaching sessions as a guide to enhanced performance and improved organizations through the development of healthier self-concepts, self-determination, and openness. He is delighted to be given the opportunity to work alongside his long-time friend and associate Jim Niemi to deliver this program for Stepping Stones Consulting.
